Alan G. Benjamin

Alan Benjamin

is a partner in Orrick's Los Angeles office and is former co-chair of the firm’s Banking & Finance Group. Mr. Benjamin has been practicing banking and commercial law for 35 years.

Mr. Benjamin concentrates his practice on complex financial transactions and restructurings, including secured and unsecured loan transactions, project financings, leveraged buy-outs, dividend recapitalizations and insolvency matters. He has extensive experience in lending to the gaming industry, including lending to Native American tribes.

In addition to his practice responsibilities, Mr. Benjamin has held many firmwide positions. Mr. Benjamin is currently Managing Director, Finance for the firm (in charge of the firm’s finances) and sits on the firm’s Management Committee. As Managing Director, Finance, Mr. Benjamin chairs the firm’s Finance and Audit Committee having served as its chair since its inception. Previously, Mr. Benjamin was a managing director having responsibility for the oversight of all of Orrick’s offices in the United States and around the world from 1999 to 2002. Mr. Benjamin was also a member of Orrick’s Executive Committee (the predecessor to the Board) from January 1997 until December 2001; he was the chair of Orrick’s Private Finance Group from January 1996 until December 2000; he was chair of the firm’s Banking and Finance Group from January 2001 until December 2011; and he was the firm's Chief Financial Officer from 2009 to 2010.
