Alex Hanna

Alex Hanna is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. Mr. Hanna's practice encompasses patent litigation, counseling, preparation, prosecution support, and opinions. He has been involved in developing the patent portfolios of popular, publicly-traded mobile device and computer manufacturers. Mr. Hanna specializes in matters involving software and hardware, e-commerce/procurement, digital media, vector-based graphics, and computer and telephone networks. He has been involved in all aspects of patent litigation in federal courts throughout the United States, as well as trade secrets litigation in state courts.

Mr. Hanna received his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2006, where in his first year he was a selected staff member of The Business Lawyer, ABA Section of Business Law and in his second and third years was the executive technology editor of the Journal of Business & Technology Law. He held an internship with the State of New Jersey Office of the Attorney General in the Telecommunications Bureau, and argued a criminal procedure appeal before the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. Mr. Hanna is a recipient of the School of Law's William P. Cunningham Award for exceptional achievement and service.

Prior to law school, Mr. Hanna was employed with a voice-over-IP (VoIP) and internet service provider (ISP), where he served dual roles as a software and network engineer. Prior to that, he was recruited by Lucent Technologies (formerly Bell Laboratories) to develop software as a software engineer in its Software Technology Center. During his tenure as a software engineer, Mr. Hanna developed automated testing and network-based quality assurance software for the optical networking group, and was awarded the Central Bell Labs Teamwork and Performance Award.

Mr. Hanna received his B.S., summa cum laude, from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Albert Dorman Honors College in 2001. He graduated first in his class and is recognized in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Mr. Hanna is an inducted member of several engineering honors societies as well as Phi Eta Sigma. Along with his B.S. in computer engineering, he completed a minor in computer science. He is fluent in Arabic.

Mr. Hanna is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and New Jersey and before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
