Alexis A. Amezcua

Alexis Amezcua is a litigation associate active in both the Financial Services Litigation and the Consumer Litigation and Class Actions practice groups. Ms. Amezcua has practiced in a variety of substantive areas, including breach of contract, unfair competition, the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, product liability, federal banking law, complex consumer class actions, and wrongful death. She has represented both plaintiffs and defendants, and her practice includes substantive trial experience in both state and federal court. Her clients range from major financial institutions, international product manufacturers, and national retailers, to individuals. She has extensive experience representing such clients in mass, complex consumer class actions, including in federal multidistrict litigation proceedings and state court coordinated proceedings involving various state unfair competition and deceptive trade practices laws. She has defended clients in product liability actions in federal and state court, and is a frequent author of legal updates concerning consumer product safety and FDA regulation of same.

Ms. Amezcua defends financial institutions in class actions brought under various federal statutes, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Servicemembers Relief Act, and the Truth in Lending Act. She has particular experience representing clients in investigations by government officials, as well as handling cases regarding mortgage lending practices, including payment option adjustable rate mortgages, and financial transaction disclosures regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

She writes for the firm’s Private Surgeon General Class Action Defender blog (www.privatesurgeongeneral.com), which provides robust case information and industry analysis of false advertising and false labeling class action cases.

Ms. Amezcua is active in the firm's pro bono efforts, including representing veterans seeking mental health care in the highly publicized Veterans for Common Sense v. Peake, and as a participant in the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Volunteer Legal Services Program. She is a recipient of the State Bar of California's Wiley W. Manuel Award for public service.

Ms. Amezcua was named a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers in 2013 and 2014.

Ms. Amezcua received her J.D. degree from Stanford Law School and her B.A. from Columbia University.
