Alicia Starkman is a senior associate in Alston & Bird's Labor & Employment Group. She represents management in all aspects of employment law. Her litigation experience includes successfully defending employers against a range of employment discrimination and retaliation claims at the administrative stage and in federal and state courts.
In addition to litigation, Alicia routinely counsels clients on matters of employment law compliance, including developing and implementing employment policies; managing employee performance, discipline and separation; responding to and investigating internal EEO complaints; addressing employee requests for accommodation; managing leaves of absence and wage and hour compliance. Alicia has particular expertise in issues arising from the Family and Medical Leave Act and Americans with Disabilities Act.
Alicia earned her J.D., with honors, in 2003 from Duke University School of Law and is a member of Order of the Coif. At Duke, Alicia was the co-recipient of the Class of 2003 Public Service Award and received the award for Outstanding Achievement in family law. Alicia received her B.A., summa cum laude, in history from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998.
