Alton Hall joined Adams and Reese in 2014 as Special Counsel in the firm’s Houston office. Practicing law since 1984, Alton is a commercial litigator and regulatory attorney in the energy sector, representing public and private sector clients in complex commercial cases, environmental, and toxic tort litigation and regulatory matters.
Alton was formerly with the International litigation law firm of Cozen O’Connor, and he was also one of the founders of one of the largest African-American owned law firms in the United States, Wickliff & Hall.
Alton has successfully represented and advised numerous oil and gas companies in various litigation matters. These matters range from oilfield contamination and underground storage tank disputes to royalty and other commercial litigation matters.
In addition, Alton has established one of the most successful and well respected public utility and energy practices, and he routinely represents public utilities, industrial companies, electric cooperatives, and governmental bodies, including numerous cities, before state and federal utility commissions. His litigation experience in this field is extensive and includes a wide variety of matters relating to electric utility deregulation.

Successfully representing Fortune 500 and mid-size companies in commercial litigation matters, and representing clients in diverse industries, such as energy, petrochemical, automotive, banking, and other sectors.

Having served on numerous bar and industry boards and committees, including the City of Houston Mayors’ Task Force for Electric System Reliability and the Texas Committee for Legal Ethics and Professionalism.
In the community, Alton serves as General Counsel to the Gulf Coast Community Services Association, the community action agency for elderly and low-income persons in Harris County, Texas. He is an active member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Texas, Houston Bar Association, National Bar Association and Defense Research Institute.
Alton earned his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1984, and he received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Carleton College, in 1981.
In his spare time, Alton enjoys physical fitness and living healthily, and he loves history.
