Amanda J. Metts

Amanda Metts is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm's Chicago office. Amanda focuses her practice on complex litigation, including antitrust and class action lawsuits, and white collar criminal and securities matters.

Amanda has represented clients in a wide range of matters in federal and state trial and appellate courts and before arbitration panels. She also routinely assists clients with negotiating, mediating and resolving significant disputes.

Amanda is currently defending putative nationwide class actions alleging price fixing and monopolization against an agricultural cooperative. She is also currently defending several putative, nationwide class actions by direct and indirect purchasers alleging an antitrust conspiracy among steel producers in the United States. Amanda's other work has included defense of a manufacturer of artificial sweeteners against allegations of antitrust violations, defense of a hedge fund in connection with class action multi-district securities litigation and related government investigation, defense of a major oil company in multibillion dollar multi-district litigation, and representation of several major health care organizations and employees in connection with various government health care fraud investigations.

Amanda has been active in pro bono matters, particularly in post-conviction cases. She has worked with Northwestern University’s Center on Wrongful Convictions and the New England Innocence Project on behalf of several clients who were ultimately exonerated. Most recently, she worked as part of a team that secured the release of a wrongly convicted man in Illinois after 23 years in prison.

Before joining the Firm in 2003, Amanda was a litigation associate in another major law firm in Boston, where her practice involved general commercial, securities, white collar and appellate work. She also served as a Special Assistant District Attorney for the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office in Massachusetts.

Just after completing law school, Amanda served as judicial clerk to then-Chief Justice Boyce F. Martin, Jr. with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Amanda was recognized by Chambers USA 2014 in the field of antitrust law, described as a ‘very tough litigator.” She also has been recognized as an "Outstanding Young Lawyer" by the American Registry and, before that, as a "Rising Star" in both Massachusetts and Illinois. She recently was named by Chicago Magazine in its selection of Top Women Attorneys - Outstanding Young Attorneys in Illinois and was part of a team nominated for the 2013 Award for “Regional Impact Case of the Year” by Benchmark Litigation.

Amanda is admitted to practice in Illinois and Massachusetts and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois; the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts; and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the First, Sixth and Seventh Circuits. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association and the American Bar Association (member of the Antitrust Section).
