Andrea Pacelli

Andrea Pacelli’s practice focuses on patent litigation in the electrical and mechanical arts. He has played leadership roles in matters covering a range of technologies such as integrated circuit design, chip manufacturing, power electronics, cloud storage and online advertising. He has experience in all phases of patent litigation, from patent selection and pre-filing investigations to written discovery, depositions and trial. He has represented clients in a variety of proceedings, including investigations before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), Inter Partes Reviews before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and patent infringement actions before U.S. District Courts across the country. He has also experience in international arbitration proceedings before the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) and was involved in several patent cross-licensing negotiations for large semiconductor companies.

Dr. Pacelli brings considerable technical depth to his law practice. He received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1998 from the Polytechnic Institute of Milan, Italy, with a thesis on the simulation of quantum-mechanical and hot-electron effects in semiconductor devices. He conducted his research at premier research institutions such as Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ and the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, IL. In 1998–99 he was a Senior Device Engineer at Tower Semiconductor Ltd, Israel, where he worked on charge trapping flash memory. In 2000–04 he was an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY, where he taught analog and digital circuit design. In 2002 he was awarded the Best Paper Award at the IEEE/ACM International Conference on Computer Aided Design (ICCAD) for an innovative simulation model for high-speed electrical interconnects in integrated circuits. He has published over 45 technical articles in peer-reviewed publications, including the IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design, Physical Review, and the Journal of Applied Physics.

Dr. Pacelli attended law school at Fordham University, where he graduated magna cum laude and served as the Senior Articles Editor for the Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal. Prior to joining Mishcon, Dr. Pacelli was affiliated with the firm of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr in New York, where he gained broad experience both in litigation matters and in patent prosecution before the USPTO.

Dr. Pacelli is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and is a registered patent attorney with the USPTO. He is a member of the New York City Bar Association and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
