Andrej Barbic

Dr. Andrej Barbic practice focuses on post-grant proceedings in the United States Patent Office (USPTO), U.S. and foreign patent counseling and portfolio development, and patent litigation, particularly pharmaceutical litigation. His clients range from small biotechnology companies to large multinational pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Barbic has successfully defended and challenged numerous patents and successfully argued for his client’s positions at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). He frequently works with colleagues on the engineering side of the practice on a variety of post-grant matters. He serves as the co-chair of Contested Matters Committee of the Boston Patent Law Association, which is responsible for post-grant proceedings.

Dr. Barbic advises clients on various strategic issues such as patentability, freedom-to-operate, patent life-cycle management, pre-litigation investigations, and strategies with respect to third-party patents and patent applications.

Dr. Barbic regularly counsels clients on patent strategy related to small molecules, pharmaceutical formulations, rational drug design, protein engineering, genome editing, DNA sequencing, diagnostics, and other areas of biotechnology in an effort to build robust patent portfolios that can stand up to challenges in the USPTO after grant.
