B. Kurt Copper

Kurt Copper represents clients on a range of litigation matters throughout the United States. His practice includes False Claims Act qui tam actions, government and internal investigations, complex contract and construction disputes, and product liability claims. Kurt has handled numerous depositions and has experience in the various stages of litigation, including electronic and expert discovery, dispositive motions, trial, and appeals.

Kurt has significant experience with cases involving allegations of health care fraud, including those arising under the False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, and state and federal regulations. He has helped defend hospitals and other clients in government investigations and suits seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in claimed damages. Most recently, Kurt served as part of a team that, on behalf of Laboratory Corporation of America, obtained dismissal of qui tam actions in Virginia and Georgia federal court that had alleged the submission of false claims due to purported violations of Medicaid billing regulations and the federal Anti-Kickback Statute.

Kurt maintains an active pro bono practice. He has successfully represented numerous clients before various federal courts, including successfully arguing an appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit regarding a prisoner's claim for a writ of habeas corpus. He also has served as an adjunct professor of appellate advocacy at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
