Ben L. Damstedt

Ben Damstedt is a partner in the Cooley Litigation department. He joined the Firm in 2005 and is resident in the Palo Alto office.

Mr. Damstedt's practice focuses on patent and technology litigation. He has experience litigating across a wide range of technologies, including cellular telephony, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless networks, digital broadcast television, graphics accelerators, DRAM, cache memory, power management, viral load testing for AIDS treatment, intravascular stents, laptop lock design, internet commerce, home and commercial automation, and smart utility grid technologies.

Mr. Damstedt is the author of the Federal Circuit section of Chapter 17 in A Practitioner's Guide to Appellate Advocacy, published by the American Bar Association in March 2010.

Prior to joining Cooley, Mr. Damstedt served as a law clerk to two Federal Judges. From 2003 to 2004, Mr. Damstedt served as a clerk to the Honorable Vaughn R. Walker, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. From 2004 to 2005, Mr. Damstedt served as a clerk to the Honorable Paul R. Michel, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Mr. Damstedt received a JD from Yale Law School in 2003, where he was an Articles Editor for the Yale Law Journal. Mr. Damstedt received a BS from Utah State University in 2000 in Environmental Engineering, graduating summa cum laude as the valedictorian of the College of Engineering.

Mr. Damstedt is a member of the State Bar of California and is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of California, Central District of California, and Eastern District of Texas.
