Bobbi J. Bierhals is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Firm’s Chicago office. Bobbi specializes in tax and business planning for high net worth individuals and families, including the structuring of tax-advantageous solutions for transferring wealth and closely-held business interests to younger generations.

Bobbi focuses her practice on owners of closely-held businesses and their family offices, including corporate governance, shareholders agreements, succession planning, wealth transfer planning and family education programs. She also coordinates other legal needs of family offices, from corporate transactions and real estate to family law, employment law and aircraft acquisition. Bobbi also advises her clients regarding the tax and property law implications of major life events, such as the sale of a family business, marriage, divorce, the birth of a child or grandchild or the death of a family member. In addition to closely held businesses and family offices, Bobbi also represents trustees, trust beneficiaries, private trust companies, estates, charitable foundations and public and private corporations and their executives and shareholders in their estate planning and fiduciary matters.

Bobbi has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, MSN Money, Private Wealth magazine and Financial Advisor magazine. She has been recognized multiple times as an “Illinois Rising Star” by Law & Politics and has taught legal research and writing at Harvard Law School. Bobbi received her law degree, cum laude, from Harvard Law School and her bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Pennsylvania. She is admitted to practice in Illinois and Wisconsin, and she works with clients nationwide. Bobbi is a member of the American Bar Association and the Chicago Estate Planning Council.
