Brad Thompson

Brad Thompson is a partner in the Austin office of King & Spalding. His practice focuses on complex commercial disputes in the energy and construction industries. Mr. Thompson utilizes his past experience as an executive and general counsel to solve problems – both inside and outside the courtroom. He has litigation experience litigating in state and federal courts, domestic and international arbitration panels, and state and federal agencies.

Mr. Thompson has renewable energy industry experience both as outside counsel and as President & General Counsel of Circular Energy (a Texas-based electric company providing renewable-based power solutions and traditional grid-sourced power). While at Circular Energy, Mr. Thompson handled a wide-variety of matters, including transactional-based work related to M&A, supply-chain, marketing, distributor agreements, and other general corporate transactional work. Due to his renewables industry experience, Mr. Thompson is co-leader of the firm's Renewable Energy Segment. He has a wide range of electricity-related experience that covers both sides of the electric meter: representing both traditional power supply clients as well as distributed generation clients operating behind the meter.

Mr. Thompson also regularly represents large institutional clients in complex trial, regulatory and appellate matters in both state and federal courts - including representations before various arbitration panels. Some of his more recent engagements include disputes and compliance-related matters involving renewable energy technology, large construction projects, tax-motivated investment strategies, breaches of contract, breaches of fiduciary duty, securities fraud, financial institution fraud, litigation and regulatory representations involving the federal Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act (PURPA) and Texas Public Utility Regulatory Act (PURA), litigation involving commercial real estate disputes, and intellectual property litigation. When a successful business resolution is not feasible, Mr. Thompson has successful first-chair and second-chair experience in both the courtroom and in arbitration.
