Brett Cagan is of counsel in the firm’s Chicago office who concentrates in estate planning and trust and probate administration.
Mr. Cagan has extensive experience drafting individualized estate plan documents, such as wills, living trusts, powers of attorney for property and health care, and life insurance trusts; advising high and ultra-high net-worth clients on estate, gift, and generation-skipping tax planning issues; analyzing, proposing, and implementing a wide range of wealth transfer and preservation strategies; developing gifting programs; and coordinating with accountants, insurance agents, and investment advisors to implement wealth transfer strategies.
Prior to joining private practice, Mr. Cagan was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Andrew P. Rodovich in Hammond, Indiana. As a judicial law clerk, he drafted substantive orders on a multitude of federal and state law issues; prepared jury instructions for civil trials; maintained pending motion report for civil case docket; amongst other tasks.
Mr. Cagan received his B.S. in accounting from Indiana University–Bloomington in 1992, and he received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1997.
