Charlotte A. Pontillo

Charlotte Pontillo’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation, including contractual disputes and intellectual property matters, among other things. She has represented corporate clients and individuals in state and federal courts throughout the country and in domestic and international arbitrations. Charlotte’s practice also includes intellectual property counseling and licensing. She is the former co-chair of the firm’s training program for incoming associates. Prior to joining Kasowitz, Charlotte practiced at the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis, LLP in New York.

Notable Representations

The founder and chairman of an international gaming and racing company, in a defamation action brought by a competitor in Maryland state court. In September, 2013, the claims against this individual were dismissed.
A hedge fund, in a New York state court case against an investment bank, involving breach of contract and fraud claims.
A leading international sewing machine company, in an arbitration brought by a former dealer alleging wrongful termination.
A major bond insurer in a New York state action brought by many of the world’s largest financial institutions, which challenged as a fraudulent conveyance the restructuring of the client’s structured finance and municipal bond insurance businesses.
A hedge fund, in connection with drafting and negotiating a financial-software licensing and services agreement.
An international bank in New York federal court, in an action arising out of the bank’s purchase of notes securitized by insurance-agency franchise loans.
A not-for-profit company, in a domain-name arbitration before the World International Property Organization (“WIPO”) Arbitration and Mediation Center. Arbitrator awarded client the disputed domain name.
A not-for-profit company, in connection with drafting and negotiating a trademark license and co-branding agreement
A public interest group, in filing an amicus brief opposing the Google Books Settlement.
A Fortune 500 telephony company against patent-infringement claims brought in the Eastern District of Texas. Client won after a jury trial.
