Colleen E. Baime

Colleen Baime is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Chicago and Los Angeles offices. She is a member of the Trial Practice Group.

Colleen focuses her practice on mass torts, product liability, toxic torts, civil conspiracy litigation, general commercial disputes, and a broad range of environmental matters. Colleen defends corporations in complex and/or multi-jurisdictional toxic tort matters, including asbestos and petroleum exposure cases. Colleen has tried more than 20 matters to verdict in Illinois and California and has supervised trial teams on trials throughout the Midwest and along the West Coast. She has also negotiated the favorable resolution of numerous matters on the eve or during the course of trial proceedings. In addition, Colleen has extensive appellate experience and has briefed and argued multiple cases to the Illinois appellate courts. In each appeal, Colleen has either successfully upheld a defense verdict or convinced the appellate court to reverse an adverse verdict.

Colleen serves as national counsel in significant product liability/toxic tort litigation. In that capacity, Colleen is responsible for the development and implementation of overall defense strategy. She supervises and directs local counsel in states throughout the country and oversees all aspects of the litigation, including case development, motion practice, expert witness development, trials, settlement negotiations, court-ordered mediations, and appeals. In addition, she serves as local counsel in mass tort litigation overseeing the day-to-day defense of more than 100 pending cases at any given time.

While in law school, Colleen served as an editor of the Stanford Law & Policy Review and was a member of the Stanford Law Review. She is active in the Firm’s pro bono efforts and works with families to secure appropriate IEPs for their children’s education, as well as handling immigration matters. She is admitted to practice in Illinois and California.
