Cyrus Amir-Mokri

Mr. Cyrus Amir-Mokri serves as an Assistant Secretary for financial institutions, U.S. Department of the Treasury. Mr. Amir-Mokri served as senior counsel to the chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), where he also was the agency's deputy representative to the Financial Stability Oversight Council. Prior to joining the CFTC, he was a Partner at the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, L.L.P. His practice focused on complex securities and antitrust litigation. He serves as a Director of NSB, FSB. Mr. Amir-Mokri served as Director of Securities Investor Protection Corporation. He also clerked for the Honorable Bruce M. Selya of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Mr. Amir-Mokri was involved in a number of complex, multiparty antitrust litigations, including In re Stock Exchanges Options Trading Antitrust Litigation; In re VISA/MasterCard Currency Conversion Fee Antitrust Litigation; Kruman v. Christie’s International plc; Lum v. Bank of America, et al., and InterVest Financial Services, Inc. v. Bear Stearns & Co., Inc. et al. Mr. Amir-Mokri successfully argued an antitrust matter before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit on behalf of Vacation Break U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Cendant Corporation. His experience in these areas includes the representation of bank holding companies and investment banks in re WorldCom, Inc. Securities Litigation and related litigation; Tyson Foods Inc. in its dispute with IBP Inc. over the enforceability of a merger agreement; Waste Management, Inc. in connection with In re Waste Management, Inc. Securities Litigation; and Centel Corporation in federal securities class action litigation arising out of Sprint Corporation’s acquisition of Centel. Mr. Amir-Mokri holds a J.D. from University of Chicago Law School, Ph.D. from University of Chicago, and A.B. in biochemistry from Harvard University.
