Dan Carter practices in all areas of labor and employment law. In traditional labor matters he has extensive experience handling labor negotiations, arbitrations, injunction proceedings, union campaigns, and unfair labor practice cases. He has advised on workforce restructuring, reductions in force, outsourcing, business relocations, plant closings, mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures in both union and non-union settings. Dan has tried and litigated numerous employment cases, including both bench and jury trials. He also has extensive experience advising federal government contractors in complying with the full panoply of applicable laws including Executive Order No. 11246, the Service Contract Act, the Contract Work Hours and Safety Standards Act, and the Davis-Bacon Act. Dan has represented employers in administrative proceedings, including workplace fatality investigations, under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
Dan also has a great deal of experience in advising employers on labor and employment issues in transactional matters. Recent representative transactions include Timken's sale of its roller bearing business to JTEKT, Timken's acquisition of the Purdy Corp., Harris Corporation's acquisition of Tyco Electronics Wireless Systems, Poly One's acquisition of GLS, and OM Group's acquisition of the electronics business of Rockwood Holdings. Clients that Dan has recently advised on workplace restructurings, layoffs, and/or RIFs include Century Aluminum, Deutz Corporation, Georgia Gulf, and Verizon Wireless.
Dan is a member of the board of trustees of the friends of the Cleveland School of the Arts.
