Daniel Clivner

Daniel Clivner is Managing Partner of the Firm’s Los Angeles office, where he advises domestic and international clients in mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and securities law matters, including leveraged buyouts, joint ventures, public company acquisitions and restructurings of media, telecom, technology and other companies.

Dan worked in Simpson Thacher’s Tokyo office from 1991 to 1994. He relocated to Los Angeles from New York in 1996 to advise The Seagram Company and NBC Universal (formerly Universal Studios) in connection with numerous television, theme park, motion picture and music acquisition, disposition and financing transactions, including the acquisition of PolyGram N.V., the sale of PolyGram Filmed Entertainment and Seagram’s merger with Vivendi SA. Dan has also represented ZelnickMedia, CBS Corporation and Universal Studios Japan in media and entertainment transactions, as well as Fast Retailing Co., Ltd., The Vorwerk Group, Shaklee Corporation, Pinnacle Foods and Herbalife in retailing transactions.

Dan has been named by Chambers as a leading lawyer (Band 2) in Corporate/M&A: Private Equity in California.

Dan has been with the Firm since 1988 and a Partner since 1998. He received his B.B.A. in Finance and Economics from Baruch College, with honors, and his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law, where he was Editor of the St. John’s Law Review. Dan is Vice Chairman and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Public Counsel, the nation’s largest pro bono law firm. He is also Vice President and Director of The Baruch College Fund of Baruch College. He has served on the Executive Committee of AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA). Dan is admitted to practice in California, New York and New Jersey.
