Daniel W. Collins is a patent agent with Foley & Lardner LLP, and he is a member of the Chemical, Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Practice. He has over 25 years of patent preparation, prosecution, and patent portfolio management experience in the pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and medical device industries. He is highly experienced in educating and counseling clients with respect to product life cycle management, patent strategies, FDA Orange Book matters, and procurement of patent and regulatory exclusivity positions.

Prior to joining Foley, Mr. Collins was associate general counsel in the Intellectual Property Department at Gilead Sciences, Inc., where he was a therapeutic area group leader responsible for managing several early stage and product patent portfolios in the technology areas of cardiovascular diseases and HIV. Mr. Collins collaborated cross-functionally across Gilead with the R&D, commercial operations, regulatory, and business development organizations. Mr. Collins was vice president of Intellectual Property for CV Therapeutics, where he was responsible for managing and overseeing the company’s worldwide patent portfolio.

Mr. Collins has also held the positions of associate general and patent counsel for Chugai Pharma USA, patent counsel for Abbott Vascular, and patent counsel and senior counsel positions for Abbott Laboratories.
