David B. Cochran

Dave Cochran leads Jones Day's 90-professional international patent prosecution group. For almost 20 years he has provided clients with a full range of patent-related legal services, including international patent prosecution, patent opinions, prelitigation counseling, ex parte and inter partes patent reexamination, due diligence of intellectual property assets, and patent litigation at the district courts and the International Trade Commission. He has filed and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications in the United States and throughout Europe, South America, and Asia. Dave participates in all aspects of patent litigation from pre-suit investigation through trial and appeal to the Federal Circuit. He recently spearheaded the formation of the Jones Day Post Grant Review Team, which includes 25 lawyers concentrating in patent prosecution and litigation who will work together to staff Post Grant and Inter Partes Reviews before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

Dave has represented numerous electronics and software clients, such as ABB, Avid Technology, Biolase, Eastman Kodak, Gennum, Harris, IBM, Intersil, Marvell Semiconductor, Oclaro, Ramtron, Research In Motion, Sandisk, SAP, SAS Institute, Semtech, Sigma Designs, Visa International, Xilinx, and many others.

Prior to joining the Firm, Dave worked as an electrical engineer for IBM and NASA, where he developed technical experience in the areas of semiconductor processing and fabrication, circuit design and simulation, semiconductor physics, laser electronics, software, embedded computer systems, control systems, power supply systems, and high-resolution imaging devices. Dave holds three U.S. patents and one European patent related to his work for IBM.
