David E. Barrett is a member of Norton Rose Fulbright's Corporate, M&A and Securities and Financial Institutions practice areas. His practice focuses primarily on acquisitions and disposals, restructurings, securities offerings and other transactions involving financial institutions and financial services businesses, as well as portfolios of financial instruments and other investments.

Barrett represents a wide range of clients, including global universal banks, investment managers, private equity and hedge fund sponsors, wealth managers, securities and investment firms, securities and commodities exchanges, broker-dealers and insurance companies. In addition, Barrett works with both emerging and mature firms focused on financial technology ("FinTech").

A significant number of his clients are domiciled outside of the U.S., and Barrett has considerable experience representing non-U.S. clients on acquisitions and divestitures of U.S. financial services firms.

Barrett's practice includes a particular focus on securities firms, broker-dealers and investment managers, including private equity and hedge fund sponsors. He has counseled investment management and securities firms on private fund formation activities, as well as a wide range of regulatory matters, including matters arising under the Investment Company Act of 1940, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, and FINRA and other rules and regulations applicable to U.S. broker-dealers.

Prior to joining Norton Rose Fulbright, Barrett practiced law at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in New York.
