David Klein is a Litigation partner located in the firm’s Washington, DC, office. His practice focuses on resolving disputes with insurance carriers through litigation and negotiations. The 2015 edition of Chambers USA, Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business cites Mr. Klein as "an expert in the practice area" with "very strong" ability as a negotiator; "[h]is attention to detail is great and he is on the ground leading this work." Previous editions of Chambers described him as an "eloquent" and "outstanding" lawyer "admired by clients for ‘his extensive experience.’”

Mr. Klein is experienced in matters involving general and excess liability, pollution legal liability, first party/business interruption, fidelity/crime, directors and officers and errors and omissions coverage. He has represented and counseled corporations in the petrochemical, mining and metals, forest products, transportation, manufacturing and utility industries in litigation, settlement negotiations and mediation to resolve coverage disputes involving environmental and asbestos claims worth billions of dollars in the aggregate. He also represents clients in litigation to recover from insolvent insurers under state insurance rehabilitation laws and in negotiations with insurers under schemes of arrangement under U.K. law. He regularly advises clients on proposed terms of insurance coverage at placement and renewal.

Mr. Klein devotes a significant portion of his time to pro bono activities. For example, he has assisted needy individuals with insurance coverage disputes, successfully prosecuted a Second Circuit appeal from immigration proceedings, and pursued precedent-setting litigation on behalf of organizations and individuals seeking to vindicate their First Amendment rights.
