Derek represents several leading companies in a variety of intellectual property litigation matters, with an emphasis in patent litigation. Derek’s patent litigation practice focuses on technologies in a variety of industries, including telecommunications, e-commerce, and automotive. Derek has extensive experience in all aspects of patent litigation and specializes in managing complex discovery issues and motions practice.

Derek also has significant experience representing a major automobile manufacturer in high exposure products liability and class action litigation on a national basis.
Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Derek was a prosecuting intern in the Johnson County Attorney's Office in Iowa City, Iowa.
