Derek Adams is a senior associate in Goodwin Procter’s Business Litigation Group. His practice focuses on complex business litigation, with an emphasis on disputes arising from the sale and securitization of residential mortgage loans. Mr. Adams also defends clients in government investigations, employment and partnership disputes, and insurance litigation. He joined Goodwin Procter in 2007.
Mr. Adams has represented a variety of clients, ranging from Fortune 100 corporations to small businesses and individuals. He has represented clients in actions brought in state and federal courts throughout the country involving claims of fraud, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, unjust enrichment, discrimination, covenants not to compete, negligence, and violations of federal law. Mr. Adams has also been intimately involved with the defense of high-stakes litigation relating to the origination, underwriting, and sale of residential mortgage loans to the government and private investors. Mr. Adams’ pro bono practice includes representation of a minor from Guatemala seeking Special Immigrant Juvenile Status to remain in the United States and representation of a young man facing civil damages resulting from an alleged assault and battery.
