Edward Patrick Swan Jr

Pat Swan is a trial lawyer and represents clients in complex civil and criminal litigation in federal and state courts throughout California and the United States. He has extensive experience in intellectual property, trade secrets, business, environmental, securities, fraud, personal injury, product liability, white-collar fraud, false claims, and commercial law matters. Pat also served as a federal criminal prosecutor for eight years and has substantial grand jury, jury trial, and appellate experience.

Pat has represented major golf, title, oil, electronic, and construction companies. Prior to joining Jones Day, he defended a national consulting firm in a $32 million breach of contract dispute that resulted in a favorable settlement, sued and recovered more than $2 million in embezzled funds for a client defrauded by vendors, mediated and renegotiated a supply contract that saved his client more than $30 million, won several anti-SLAPP motions that resulted in dismissal of defamation lawsuits and recovery of attorneys' fees, successfully defended state and federal grand jury investigations that resulted in no criminal charges being filed, sued and recovered on a professional athlete's endorsement agreement, and successfully defended SEC enforcement investigations.

Pat is a member of the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, the National Association for Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Lawyers Club of San Diego as well as many other bar associations. He also has sat on the board of numerous legal and bar organizations and is currently on the advisory board of Best Lawyers®.
