Emily Hayes is a member of the firm’s Life, Health, Disability & ERISA practice and primarily represents life, health and disability insurers in denial of benefits claims. Her litigation experience includes matters involving ERISA and individual insurance policies, as well as other insurance claims and coverage issues. She also has defended employers in employment-related matters and insurance brokers and accountants in professional liability claims. She also defends securities arbitrations before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and has experience defending and providing advice in RICO and antitrust matters.
Emily represents clients in all aspects of litigation in New York’s state and federal courts and in Connecticut federal court. She handles court conferences, discovery and depositions, dispositive motion practice, settlement negotiations and mediations, as well as appellate practice.
Prior to joining Wilson Elser in 2004, Emily was a law clerk in the Southern District of New York, an experience that has proved invaluable with regard to her familiarity with the federal court system and her polished writing skills. She also clerked for a year in New Jersey Superior Court.
