Franklin P. Brannen Jr

Frank Brannen

is counsel with King & Spalding’s Tort Litigation Practice Group where he focuses primarily on the defense of automotive and pharmaceutical manufacturers in product liability cases. In addition, he has represented a homebuilder in litigation involving claims of personal injury and property damage arising out of alleged residential exposure to sulfide gases from defective drywall manufactured in China.

Mr. Brannen is part of the national coordinating counsel and trial counsel team in product liability litigation involving GSK’s antidepressant Paxil® and has served as part of the national counsel team defending Purdue Pharma in nationwide litigation over its pain medication OxyContin®. He has served as lead counsel for two automotive manufacturers in asbestos lawsuits pending in Georgia and has experience consulting with a foreign manufacturer regarding the regulatory requirements for the sale of vehicles in the United States. Mr. Brannen has additional experience in litigation matters involving claims of fraud, defamation, and breach of warranty.

Memberships

ABA, DRI, the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association (served as Chair, Product Liability Committee), and has served as the Chair of the Annual State Bar of Georgia Product Liability Seminar for three years.

Publications and Presentations

Authored articles and lectured at seminars in areas related to his practice, including an annual survey of Georgia product liability law, federal regulatory issues, Daubert, wrongful death, evidence, and warranty law.

Admitted to practice in the state courts of Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi as well as in the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Eleventh Circuits, United States District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia, Northern District of Alabama, Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi, Middle District of Florida, Western District of Michigan, and Northern District of Illinois.

Education

Yale University (B.A., History); Member of 1989 Ivy League Champion football team.

Received his J.D., cum laude, from Mercer University where he served as the Editor of the Eleventh Circuit Survey for the Mercer Law Review and was a member of the Moot Court Board.
