George A. Riley

George Riley is a partner in O'Melveny's San Francisco office and one of the Firm's most experienced trial lawyers. George was named by the San Francisco Chronicle Magazine as one of the top 15 lawyers in Northern California. He was also recognized by the San Francisco and Los Angeles Daily Journal as among the top intellectual property lawyers in California (2008-11). Defending at trial a global manufacturer and supplier of integrated circuits, microprocessors, and flash memory devices for the personal and network computer and communications markets against claims by Intel of copyright infringement in microprocessor microcode and unfair business practices.
Representing a biopharmaceutical company that develops antibody products for the treatment of a variety of disease conditions, including cancer, inflammatory and autoimmune disorders, transplant‑related diseases, cardiovascular disease, and infectious diseases against a leading manufacturer of generic pharmaceuticals and certain medical equipment in a consolidated patent infringement action involving technology for the creation of fully human monoclonal antibodies.
Prosecuting claims of trade dress and design patent infringement on behalf of one of the largest global designers and manufacturers of personal computers against a manufacturer of personal computers.
Prosecuting and defending claims of patent infringement involving the simulation and emulation of integrated circuit design on behalf of a company that provides software and accelerated simulation, system emulation, and hardware/software co-verification for large, complex electronic systems against a manufacturer of hardware-assisted verification systems.
Representing a major global designer and manufacturer of personal computers in the defense of a trademark infringement action brought by a provider of real-time operating system software.
Representing a leading biopharmaceutical company that develops and markets therapeutic and predictive medicine products, including various proprietary proteomic technologies, against a genomics services company in several patent infringement actions related to genes and mutations that predispose women to breast and ovarian cancer. The cases also involved a related action raising inventorship claims and a separate proceeding against the National Institute of Health.
Intervening on behalf of one of the largest global designers and manufacturers of personal computers to object to a proposed US$1 billion settlement of consolidated antitrust class actions.
Defending a Japanese manufacturer of semiconductor test equipment in an international arbitration proceeding arising out of a license agreement for SOC (system-on-a-chip) testing technology.
Representing a leading supplier of electronic design automation software in an action for copyright infringement and misappropriation of trade secrets brought by the largest supplier of electronic design automation products and services. This representation also included defense of claimed criminal misappropriation of trade secrets.
