Giorgio Bovenzi is a partner in Dentons' Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy practice. He has more than 20 years of experience in credit, banking, regulatory, derivatives, bankruptcy and cross-border insolvency law in multiple jurisdictions around the world. During the past 10 years, leveraging complementary experience in multijurisdictional credit and regulatory risk management as well as cross-border and international insolvency, Giorgio's practice has focused on advising global financial institutions and companies in connection with their cross-border financial transactions, the evaluation of their cross-border risk profiles and the identification and implementation of appropriate risk mitigation techniques.
In his global credit risk management practice, Giorgio provides ongoing advice to financial institutions in their analysis of the cross-border legal validity and enforceability of a variety of financial products and structures within the institution's global businesses (for example, prime brokerage, over-the-counter derivatives, centrally cleared derivatives, securities lending, repos, asset custody) and on the structuring and development of new products for global markets, enabling banks to identify and mitigate credit risk and to benefit from more favorable treatments under bank regulatory capital rules (such as Basel III). This practice involves deep familiarity with credit risk mitigation techniques, such as close-out netting and financial collateral, and their enforceability in the United States and in foreign jurisdictions, as well as deep familiarity with the applicable foreign insolvency laws.
In his cross-border and international insolvency practice, Giorgio represents foreign debtors in Chapter 15 or plenary insolvency matters or out-of-court restructurings. He also advises global financial institutions on credit risks related to the insolvency of foreign counterparties or to their foreign collateral. His work on international insolvency matters has received broad recognition and awards.
In addition to his legal practice, Giorgio is also an adjunct professor at Fordham University School of Law.
