Gloria L. Materre

A proven leader and accomplished executive, Gloria focuses her practice on real estate and general corporate law, government relations and regulatory matters. She also has significant experience within the media and entertainment realm, having served as outside counsel to BET in negotiating talent and licensing agreements, as well as representing CBS in a federal court case centering on a dispute between management and talent, and representing broadcasting clients in talent negotiations. She also has served as outside corporate counsel to clients involved with Jimmy John’s and Curves franchises.

Within the corporate world, Gloria’s leadership abilities enable her to provide trusted, practical counsel to clients on a wide variety of matters, ranging from transactions to contracts to governance. She places a priority on building relationships, bringing parties together and working tirelessly to move projects forward. As a recognized leader in the Illinois business community, Gloria was appointed by Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to serve in executive leadership roles in state government. In 2009 she served as his Deputy Chief of Staff and was later appointed to serve as Executive Director of the Illinois Housing Development Authority and the Illinois Liquor Control Commission, allowing her to further utilize her abilities to bring positive change across the state. These roles also have provided her with unique insight into the challenges faced by her clients, as she is able to examine issues from both a legal and business standpoint.

Gloria is also actively involved in alcohol regulatory advocacy and in October, 2013, she was recognized nationally for her leadership in Alcohol Regulation and received an inaugural annual award from the Center For Alcohol Policy recognizing the work of Alcohol Regulators who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in alcohol regulation efforts, and in creating programs that have achieved positive results highlighting best practices that serve as examples for other States. She also regularly participates as a speaker at conferences discussing legal issues related to state alcohol beverage regulation.
