Gwilym Attwell is a Principal in Fish & Richardson’s Delaware* office, managing the local presence of Fish’s highly regarded patent prosecution and counseling practice. His practice emphasizes U. S. and foreign patent prosecution, opinion work, due diligence studies, and client counseling in the fields of biotechnology, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals. He has counseled clients on biotech, biomedical, chemical, and pharmaceutical patent applications involving, for example, vaccines, antibodies, genomics, polypeptides, small molecule inhibitors, gene therapy, diagnostics, and therapeutics. He often assists clients in the strategic development and monetization of internal patent portfolios, patent process implementation and the assessment of third-party IP collaborations as part of Fish & Richardson’s IP Risk Management Group (RISC/return).
Mr. Attwell’s technical experience includes having served as a pharmacologist at Wyeth-Ayerst Research in the Bone Metabolism and Osteoporosis Research department, where he developed and implemented high-throughput screening assays to identify lead compounds and performed basic research using cell and molecular biology. He was also a research technician at the Cleveland Clinic Research Institute, where he performed research on pathogenic viruses, e.g., vesicular stomatitis virus and human parainfluenza viruses.
