Carter focuses primarily on insurance coverage advice, negotiation and litigation. He is particularly conversant with commercial general liability, professional liability, D&O liability and property policies. His advice to clients on coverage issues ranges from negotiating policy language to negotiating indemnity and insurance provisions in commercial contracts to seeking recovery for losses. His representative matters include complex coverage disputes involving multiple layers of coverage in multiple years, business interruption claims development and collection, property loss claims, advice and negotiation regarding long tail coverage implicated by potential asbestos and/or environmental liability, Bermuda Form litigation, and general analysis of and advice regarding corporate insurance programs.

Carter also focuses on real estate litigation. Formerly the president and principal of a land surveying firm, he utilizes this prior experience in the litigation of easement issues, boundary disputes and title disputes.
