Mr. Harry Ballan is a Partner and member in Davis Polk & Wardwell's Tax Department. Mr. Ballan joined Davis Polk in 1993 and became a Partner in 1999. He has advised on the tax aspects of domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions, spinoffs, and securities offerings for clients including as Aetna, Bertelsmann, RJR Nabisco, Silicon Graphics, PepsiCo, Emerson, Texas Instruments, and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. He was an Assistant Professor at Brandeis University from 1986 to 1989. He clerked for the Honorable Wilfred Feinberg, U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, from 1992 to 1993. Mr. Ballan graduated from Yale College in 1981 and in 1986 received his Ph.D. from Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. In 1992 he received his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was an editor of the law review and a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.

I became a Director of the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF) (founded by Dr. Oliver Sacks) in 2014 where I direct the PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury Program. In 2015, I was made a Salzburg Global Fellow in Neuroscience and the Arts,and later a Salzburg Global Fellow in Early Childhood Development and Education (focusing on the contributions of neuroscience). I recently started a wellness and therapy program for veterans at the Bronx Veterans Administration Medical Center. I am a Director of Songwriting With Soldiers,an innovative program to assist soldiers in their adjustment to civilian life, and in the scientific investigation of songwriting as a treatment modality for PTSD.
