Hugh Whiting's practice involves assisting businesses with the defense and resolution of complex litigation. He has been lead counsel defending a variety of businesses in connection with a wide range of disputes, including product defect and consumer fraud class actions, securities and corporate governance cases, business-to-business transactional disputes, and other commercial litigation. He has represented clients in both trial and appellate matters in state and federal courts in many different jurisdictions and has worked extensively in the management and defense of class actions and multistate litigation. Clients he has represented include Bridgestone/Firestone, R.J. Reynolds, IBM, Chevron, Mattel, and Procter & Gamble.
From 2008 through 2010, Hugh served as the Firm Administrative Partner and was responsible for the Firm's administrative functions across Jones Day's locations worldwide. From 2001 through 2006, he was Partner-in-Charge of the Firm's Houston Office.
He is a member of the Texas and Houston Bar Associations, the ABA (Litigation and Business Law Sections), the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, and the National Council of The Ohio State University College of Law. He is a member of the board of the Houston Chapter of The Texas General Counsel Forum and the Advisory Board of the Houston Assistance League. He is a former member of the Civil Justice Reform Act Advisory Group to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Hugh has participated in various seminars related to litigation practice, with emphasis on subjects related to practice quality and the development of management techniques for complex commercial litigation.
