Brian Jackson is co-director of McGuireWoods’ transportation industry team, a practice he has nurtured and developed over the past decade. His transportation clients span the full industry spectrum, ranging from captive insurance companies, to natural gas transmission companies, to long-haul truckers. Known for his success in trying high-exposure jury cases in various jurisdictions throughout the United States, Brian has tried hundreds of cases in Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, Georgia, Alabama, Texas and Florida.
Brian has experience in all aspects of motor carrier litigation management, including first- and third-party claims, personal injury defense, uninsured and under-insured motorist coverage. He has served as national coordinating counsel for discovery and litigation, Department of Transportation audits and investigations, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigations, and cases involving property damage, fire loss, and arson. He is well-versed in the complexities of tractor-trailer accidents and multiple-vehicle collisions and has handled these types of cases throughout the United States in both federal and state courts. He also has significant jury trial experience with wrongful death and severe bodily injury claims arising out of complex, multiple-vehicle pile-ups.
Well-recognized for his commitment to the transportation industry, Brian has been selected by his peers as one of the best transportation lawyers in the state of Virginia. Earlier in his career he was nominated for membership in the prestigious Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA), and he has remained an active member ever since.
In addition to his trucking experience, Brian serves as the firm's transportation resource relating to natural gas transmission and distribution. He has experience with securing right-of-way access for the protection of underground assets and has substantial knowledge of the regulatory and investigatory issues arising out of pipeline ruptures and explosions. Brian leads McGuireWoods’ rapid deployment team for cases involving catastrophic explosions and has particular experience with Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration corrective action orders and NTSB investigations of these events.
For several years in a row, Brian has been named as one of Virginia Business Magazine’s "Legal Elite." While earning his undergraduate degree from Hampden-Sydney College, he was honored as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Epsilon, Phi Sigma Iota and Phi Alpha Theta. Brian has been a faculty member of the National Trial Advocacy Institute since 2007.
