Jim is a partner in the litigation group with his principal office in Columbus, Ohio. He also maintains and works out of the Cleveland office. Jim, a former United States Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Ohio, has more than 25 years of legal experience. His practice is focused on complex civil litigation. He has consistently been called upon to lead large teams on complex matters on a variety of topic areas.

Jim served as a United States Magistrate Judge from 1995 to 1999 and during his tenure, he presided as the trial judge in numerous civil cases in which the parties consented to his jurisdiction for all proceedings and entry of final judgment. During Jim’s service as a judge, he spent a significant amount of time in the courtroom on trials and hearings. He also conducted settlement and mediation proceedings.

Prior to joining Vorys, Jim was a partner at Squire Sanders (now Squire Patton Boggs) and the leader of the firm’s global litigation practice.

Jim has spoken on complex litigation topics, including managing in-house and outside counsel litigation teams; trends in litigation management; internal corporate investigations; and simplifying complex jury trials. He also regularly presents on leadership topics, including time management, ethics and professionalism.
