With over 40 years of experience, James focuses his practice on litigation with an emphasis on civil rights, class actions, sports and entertainment law. He has experience serving as principal legal advisor in administrative, mediation, arbitration, litigation and/or appellate matters in the area of employment law, civil rights, sports and entertainment law (exclusive of agency representation) and has provided advice to management for sports agencies and sports management firms. He also has extensive experience in major class action matters representing management in private sector matters and representing plaintiffs in matters exclusively against the federal government.
James has spent a large portion of his career counseling clients on employment matters, including conducting audits of corporate employment practices, representing corporate management in employment proceeding before administrative and judicial tribunals and representing management before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). He served as lead counsel to a large metropolitan transit authority in high exposure employment, labor and personal injury matters.
His experience includes serving as lead counsel for management in mediation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution protocols in a wide range of matters arising in employer-employee workplace issues. James has also served as legal advisor to national and international for-profit corporations and non-profit organizations, including consultation to management in the music and entertainment industry
He has extensive knowledge of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964, as amended and 1991, Equal Pay Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Americans with Disabilities Act.
In addition, he has also served as an advisor to academic institutions for National Collegiate Athletic Association compliance.
Additionally, he provides counsel to Native American Nations’ hospitality industries, gaming and agricultural activities, served as lead counsel for Native Americans in select federal litigation, and serves as legal advisor to tribal management for Native American Nations.
