John is a skilled trial lawyer known for handling large, complex commercial and banking cases in state and federal courts across the country. His extensive trial experience enables him to devise strategies for litigation involving dozens of witnesses and thousands of documents, in which hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake.

John previously served as a trial attorney with the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. He defended claims brought by nuclear utilities over the disposal of spent nuclear fuel. He was also on a team of lawyers who won a precedent-setting verdict after a three-week jury trial Federal District Court in Minnesota that resulted in a judgment of more than $16.6 million in favor of American Bank of St. Paul and 25 participant banks. The case is believed to be the first reported verdict in the county holding a bank liable for aiding and abetting the fraud of one of its customers.
