John F. Germany is a partner in Holland & Knight's Tampa office and has a wide range of experience in many areas of the law. Mr. Germany's practice covers litigation, media law, maritime law, public utility regulation, international law, corporate law and agriculture-related legal issues. He has worked extensively in the citrus industry practice area and has acted as a director and general counsel for Tropicana Products, Inc. He has played a key role in the legal and business plannings of several publicly held industrial concerns.
Mr. Germany's deep commitment to the community was recognized by the University of South Florida, which presented to him its Medallion for Community Service, and by Stetson University, which granted him an honorary Doctor of Jurisprudence degree. On November 1, 1999, Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa dedicated the downtown library "The John F. Germany Library" to honor the work he has done for libraries and other activities in the community.
After graduating from Harvard, he practiced law in Tampa for nine years before being appointed a Circuit Judge for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit. He served there until 1966, when he resigned to become a partner in Knight, Jones, Whitaker and Germany (which, in 1968, merged with another firm to become Holland & Knight).
