John's practice focuses on insolvency and debtor-creditor issues, including bankruptcy, state creditors' rights law and commercial litigation. He represents creditors and corporate debtors in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 proceedings. He also has extensive experience representing buyers and other parties-in-interest in issues concerning acquisition sales under the bankruptcy code, the assumption or rejection of contracts, and preference litigation.

He is the immediate past-president of the Bankruptcy Section of the Richmond Bar Association. He has lectured on bankruptcy law at various continuing legal education programs and bar functions.

From 1996 to 1997, John served as law clerk for the Honorable Conrad B. Duberstein of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York, and from 1995-1996, he served as law clerk for the Honorable Douglas O. Tice, Jr. of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Eastern District of Virginia.
