John Cassidy is an advisor to NASCAR and the International Speedway Corporation, counseling them on complex business issues that include antitrust, securities, competition rules, membership rights in voluntary organizations and contracts.

In addition to his substantial professional sports practice, Mr. Cassidy has represented a number of senior public officials, including members of Congress and the Executive Branch, in connection with grand jury and independent counsel investigations. He was involved in the first Foreign Corrupt Practices Act trial which resulted in a favorable plea agreement for the client.

Mr. Cassidy’s representation of individuals and corporations in civil and criminal matters has touched upon many areas, including allegations of alcohol, tobacco and firearms violations, banking fraud and commercial bribery. He has been actively involved in representing corporations threatened with debarment and suspension by the federal government and has obtained successful dispositions in a wide range of criminal matters.

John Cassidy was a founding partner in the Washington, D.C., law firm of Miller, Cassidy, Larroca & Lewin, L.L.P. (which was merged into Baker Botts in January 2001), establishing the firm in 1965 after serving as a trial attorney in the Criminal and Tax Divisions of the United States Department of Justice and as Special Assistant to the Attorney General of the United States, Robert F. Kennedy.
