As the former general counsel for two major regional health systems, John has a unique perspective on the types of legal counsel health care organizations need to achieve their business goals and improve patient care. He also has direct experience with the sweeping changes wrought by health care reform, and can help health care institutions adapt to new issues and create real change in their organizations.

John advises health systems, large physician groups, and health care executives on a full range of regulatory, transactional, and organizational issues, and draws on his own experiences as a health care executive to counsel clients on strategic planning, hospital-physician alignment, and fiduciary board engagement.

In addition to his work as general counsel, John also recently served as the chief executive officer of the multispecialty physician group of a large health system in Tennessee. His work reorganizing a physician network resulted in national recognition for the group for its accomplishments as a patient-centered medical home and accountable care organization — all with unprecedented engagement from physicians and other providers.

John has developed a special focus on a number of hot-button issues for health care entities: accountable care organizations, clinically integrated networks, provider-plan partnerships, population health programming and bundled payment initiatives.

With his training in mediation and his diverse experience, John approaches each matter with an open mind and a keen eye for how a health care organization can derive benefit from new strategies and innovative opportunities.
