Joshua Berman

Joshua Berman is the Deputy General Counsel of the Department of Commerce. He joined the Department of Commerce from Katten Muchin Rosenman, LLP, where he was a partner and national co-head of Katten's White Collar, Government Investigations and Compliance practice. At Katten, Josh represented corporate and individual clients in white collar criminal and regulatory investigations, securities enforcement actions, complex civil litigation, federal appellate litigation, multistate attorney general cases, qui tam and compliance matters. Prior to Katten, Josh was a partner at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP, where he was national chair of the firm’s White Collar and Government Investigations Group. Before joining Sonnenschein, Josh served as a senior federal prosecutor in the Public Integrity Section of the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice (2002-2004); Associate Investigative Counsel for the Webster Commission for the Review of FBI Security Programs (2001-2002); and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York (1997-2001).

After graduating from law school, Mr. Berman was a judicial clerk for the Honorable Joel M. Flaum of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Mr. Berman received a B.A. from Cornell University, and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was an editor of the Law Review.
