Juan M. Arciniegas is a Shareholder at Vedder Price and a member of the Investment Services group in the firm’s Chicago office.

Mr. Arciniegas works primarily as a derivatives lawyer and has significant experience in the market for over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives, structured products and futures. He advises on every stage throughout the life cycle of a derivatives transaction, from conducting pre-trade regulatory due diligence to negotiating transactional documentation and advising on post-trade reporting and recordkeeping obligations. This includes providing assistance to clients on regulatory issues, such as derivatives reform under Dodd-Frank, clearing and trading mandates, SEF rules and jurisdictional matters, ISDA protocols and cross-border application of derivatives regulation. In addition, Mr. Arciniegas works closely with London Partner Sam Tyfield on EMIR and AIFMD regulation related to derivatives. A frequent speaker on regulatory reform and the evolution of the derivatives market, he is also published in this area.

Mr. Arciniegas represents clients in a similar capacity with respect to other products, such as listed options and futures, prime brokerage, securities lending, repurchase transactions and agency MBS.

Before entering private practice, Mr. Arciniegas served as a leading counsel for derivatives and other OTC products on behalf of JPMorgan. In that role, he negotiated OTC derivatives documentation, repurchase transactions and prime brokerage documentation for institutional market participants, and agreements used by futures commission merchants for futures and options trading. He also provided advice on a range of substantive rules and regulations that intersect with OTC products, including issues arising under federal banking law, the Bankruptcy Code, the UCC, the CFTC, the SEC, ERISA and general contract law.
