Kamao C. Shaw

Kamao Shaw represents national banks, state banks, life insurance companies, and private equity funds in all aspects of lender representation, including loan documentation, workouts, foreclosures, and borrower/guarantor enforcement litigation. Mr. Shaw has negotiated and documented mezzanine loan transactions on behalf of senior lenders and mezzanine lenders. He has also negotiated and drafted syndicated and participated loan transactions on behalf of both lead banks and participant banks.

Mr. Shaw’s practice also focuses on the acquisition of disposition of commercial real estate, as well as leasing. Mr. Shaw has negotiated and documented purchase and sale transactions for undeveloped and environmentally challenged assets. He has also negotiated and documented commercial leases for multi-tenant medical buildings and mixed-used facilities located throughout Southern California.

In addition, Mr. Shaw was a trial attorney for the first six years of his career at Bryan Cave, and in that capacity defended institutional lenders against claims of predatory lending, negligent loan servicing, and wrongful foreclosure. He defended against single-borrower claims, class actions, and “mass actions” involving more than 1,000 plaintiffs.

Mr. Shaw is involved in a broad range of firm committees and initiatives. He is a member of the firm’s recruiting and diversity committees, and has served as a work coordinator for the summer associate program, and as an associate liaison to the partnership.

Mr. Shaw graduated from the University of Michigan Law School, where he excelled in the client counseling competition and the moot court competition. Prior to joining the firm, he worked as a legal intern at American Online, where he advised on criminal, contractual, and intellectual property related matters.
