Keith Burney is an accomplished trial lawyer, a former federal prosecutor, and Navy SEAL with a current Top Secret security clearance. He has extensive experience in handling trial and white collar criminal matters.
Keith represents clients in procedural and substantive issues arising in the context of national security related investigations and judicial review of those investigations.
Keith advises clients in white collar criminal prosecutions, regulatory enforcement actions, congressional investigations, and cybersecurity matters, particularly ones with national security implications. He chiefly represents companies and organizations facing investigations and potential prosecution under the False Claims Act, healthcare regulations, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, public corruption statutes, and related civil statutes. He also handles cybersecurity incidents and data breaches, government and internal investigations, and privacy-related matters. His clients are engaged in diverse industries such as healthcare, technology, and transportation.
Keith previously served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia where he tried 26 cases to verdict. Most recently he worked on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals as a clerk for the Honorable Richard C. Tallman where he was principally responsible for assisting the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review on pending matters. During his tenure with Judge Tallman he served as the principal drafter of the recently amended and updated Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review Rules.
Keith is a magna cum laude graduate of the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, where he also served on Law Review. He has an undergraduate engineering degree from the United States Naval Academy. Upon graduation from the Academy he served for 9 years in various positions with the Navy’s elite SEAL Teams before entering law school.
