Ko Fang Chang

Mr. Chang counsels clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups on strategic patent portfolio development, with emphasis on patent prosecution in electrical and computer related technologies. He works closely with clients and leads teams of skilled attorneys in prosecuting patent applications in both the U.S. and foreign countries. He develops strategy to address key infringement and validity issues at various stages of licensing and litigation. In addition, he performs due diligence investigations, freedom-to-operate studies and non-infringement/invalidity opinions on behalf of clients.

Mr. Chang also serves as co-chair of the firm's Patent Reexamination & Inter Partes Disputes team. He has extensive experience handling Ex Parte and Inter Partes Reexaminations. He has also filed one of the first petitions for initiating Inter Partes Review before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Prior to his legal career, Mr. Chang was an electrical engineer at ViaSat, Inc., where he designed hardware and software for satellite communication systems.

In 2011, the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal honored Mr. Chang as one of Silicon Valley’s Top 40 Under 40. Mr. Chang was recognized for his outstanding legal practice and his contributions to the Asian Law Alliance, which provides legal services to low-income individuals in areas of domestic violence, employment, and housing in Santa Clara County.
