Lee DeJulius, a former law clerk to Chief Justice William Rehnquist, focuses on complex trial and appellate matters. He has tried cases to federal and state juries and has handled commercial arbitrations. Most recently, Lee was lead trial counsel in a successful two-week federal jury trial in an employment matter that garnered national attention. He has appeared in dozens of appellate matters, arguing appeals in four different federal courts of appeal, and twice serving as counsel of record before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Lee currently represents UPMC in several high-profile antitrust matters involving West Penn Allegheny Health System and Highmark, Inc. Some of his more recent successful representations include defending an oil and gas E&P company in a $1.6 billion commercial dispute in the High Court of Justice in London, England involving ownership of major oil concessions in Kurdistan, Iraq; arguing a motion to dismiss in a multimillion dollar oil and gas dispute regarding ownership of Marcellus Shale leases; and arguing a motion for summary judgment on constitutional claims in a multibillion public nuisance lawsuit. Lee also has successfully represented the University of Notre Dame regarding alleged Establishment Clause violations in replicating its ACE program and has advised the university in its investigation following a fatal videography lift collapse during football practice.
Lee is a member of the Policy and Advocacy Working Group for the Energy Alliance of Greater Pittsburgh, and he serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh Law School, teaching a class on the First Amendment.
