Lori McFarlin Troutman

Lori Troutman began her practice with Baker Botts in 1993. She has practiced exclusively in employee benefits since 1994, advising employers on a wide variety of benefit plan design and administration matters.

Since 2004, Ms. Troutman has concentrated on welfare benefits, assisting clients daily with all aspects of their group health, disability, life insurance and other welfare plans, including compliance with the Internal Revenue Code, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA and Medicare. From the date of its enactment, Ms. Troutman has worked with the requirements of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (also known as “health care reform”) as applied to employer-sponsored group health plans. Ms. Troutman also has extensive experience in planning and preparing efficient, compliant welfare plan documents and accurate, user-friendly summary plan descriptions, employee notices and other communications. Her welfare practice also includes advice on Form 5500 filing requirements and preparation of delinquent filer voluntary compliance program (DFVCP) submissions.

Ms. Troutman also has substantial experience with qualified plans, which includes working with non-profit companies. She provides counsel to employers and plan fiduciaries on the design, implementation, documentation, operation and termination of pension and profit-sharing plans and leveraged employee stock ownership plans.

Ms. Troutman assists clients with negotiating and drafting employment and employee leasing agreements,. She has frequently advised clients with regard to filings and related communications with the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, Department of Labor and Internal Revenue Service, including IRS determination letter requests.
