M. Talmadge Simpson

Talmadge Simpson is a member of the Environmental and Natural Resources Section and located in the Birmingham office, although he practices in both Alabama and Georgia. Tal's practice includes advising businesses, governmental entities, and individuals on a variety of regulatory, litigation, and transactional matters arising principally under the major federal environmental statutes, including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, as well as state and local environmental laws. Tal also specializes in various administrative law matters, including assisting and advising clients on obtaining and protecting information under the Freedom of Information Act and other federal and state “sunshine” and open records laws, as well as advising clients on various issues arising under the information disclosure provisions of major environmental laws, including section 114 of the Clean Air Act and section 308 of the Clean Water Act.

Prior to law school, Tal worked as a compliance specialist at a major energy company and provides his clients with a combination of technical background and broad familiarity with environmental and administrative law and procedure.

Tal is a native of Austin, Texas, and former resident of Atlanta, Georgia. He and his wife, Lindsey, are both National Outdoor Leadership School alumni, where they met in 2003 on a semester course in Baja California, Mexico, a destination to which they now aspire on the rare occasions they are not enjoying the company of their daughters at their home in Birmingham, Alabama.
